LTC Aaron Farmer currently serves as the Science Director at WRAIR-AFRIMS where he is engaged in representing all branches within WRAIR-AFRIMS to drive strategic scientific decision on research of militarily-relevant pathogens. Prior to this position, he served as Director of the Viral Diseases Program within the Center for Infectious Diseases Research at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR), where he led a multidisciplinary team of more than 65 civilian, contractor, and military personnel conducting research on viral diseases of military relevance. Throughout his career, LTC Farmer has held several leadership positions in both research and patient care, including Director of Clinical Study Sites and Chief of the Department of Virology in Bangkok, Thailand as well as Chief of the Infectious Disease Clinic at Womack Army Medical Center (WAMC), Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he was responsible for the coordination and management of inpatient and outpatient infectious disease care, including cases ranging from malaria to multidrug-resistant bacterial infections. During this time, he also served as the Chief of the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Defense Team at WAMC and the Travel Clinic, where he provided travel medicine recommendations to both civilian and military personnel traveling worldwide.
