Dr. Richner is an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Medicine. Dr. Richner earned his doctoral degree in microbiology from the University of California Berkely investigating molecular virology. The overall goal of the Richner lab is to define the signaling pathways, cytokine networks, and cellular dynamics which lead to a robust adaptive immune response and immunologic memory following viral infection or vaccination. With this information, we can develop novel prophylactics and therapeutics to combat infectious diseases. Dr. Richner has been at the forefront of mRNA vaccine development, having developed the first mRNA vaccine against flaviviruses. He serves on review panels for the NIH and DoD.
