Dr. Mayuri Sharma leads the Product Sciences team at Takeda Vaccines, focusing on vaccine virology and immunology. Over her eight years with Takeda, she has conducted and led research on viral vaccine candidates, mechanisms of vaccine action, immunogenicity, and correlates of protection. Her team collaborates extensively with academic and industry partners to better understand dengue virus pathogenesis, the viral and immunological drivers of dengue disease severity, and the significant health and economic impact of integrating vaccines into multimodal efforts to reduce the global burden of dengue. Previously, Dr. Sharma worked at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Vaccines, where she led research on a Zika vaccine candidate in collaboration with the NIH Vaccine Research Center. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School, studying Human Cytomegalovirus and Herpes Simplex Virus I pathogenesis. She earned her PhD at Purdue University, where she researched Alphavirus and Flavivirus nonstructural proteins. Additionally, she holds a Master’s degree in Biotechnology from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, where she studied latent Mycobacterium tuberculosis infections, and an honors baccalaureate degree in Microbiology from the University of Delhi, India.
