Dr. Cantaert heads the Immunology Unit at Institut Pasteur in Cambodia and is Director of Research at Institut Pasteur in Paris. Her research is centered around understanding the mechanisms of protective immune responses during vector transmitted diseases such as dengue, chikungunya or Plasmodium vivax malaria. She obtained her PhD in Clinical Immunology in 2008 at the University of Amsterdam. After that, she completed her training with a postdoctoral fellowship at Yale University, USA, from 2010-2013. In 2014, she moved to Cambodia to setup her own lab at Institut Pasteur in Cambodia. She was a HHMI International Research Scholar (2017-2022). With funding from NIH and Wellcome Trust, she has setup a single cell analysis platform, which includes equipment and pipelines for single cell sequencing and monoclonal antibody discovery to various novel/emerging RNA virus infections at the site of emergence.

Currently, Dr. Cantaert is PI or co-investigator on NIH, Wellcome Trust and European Union Horizon grants. Since starting her independent career in 2015, she has mentored 6 postdoctoral scientists and 5 PhD students. She is highly involved in capacity building, teaching and training of young Cambodian scientists.
